Frequently Asked Questions

Can I eat kebab?

Yes, with careful choices. Prefer lean options such as chicken skewers and cop şiş. Avoid oily kebabs (Adana, kavurma) or eat very little. Skip lavash and pide. Chew slowly and eat small portions.

Can I drink Turkish coffee?

Generally yes one month after surgery. However, drink it sugar-free or with very little sugar. Limit to 1-2 cups per day. Do not drink on an empty stomach as it can irritate the stomach.

Can I fast during Ramadan?

Generally not recommended in the first year. In subsequent years, talk with your doctor. Some patients can fast without any problems, while it may be risky for others. Your health is the priority; the alternative of fidya (compensation) can also be considered.

Can I eat meat at Eid?

Yes, but choose lean cuts. Chew very well, eat small portions. Avoid or consume very little of oily preparations like kavurma. Do not exceed your stomach's capacity.

Can I eat dessert?

Sugary desserts can cause Dumping Syndrome (nausea, sweating, weakness). Avoid heavy desserts like baklava and künefe. You can have a very small taste on special days, but regular consumption is not recommended.

Conclusion

Turkish cuisine is livable after Bariatric Surgery! With protein-priority choices, small portions, and smart adaptations, you can continue living healthily without losing the flavors you love.

The important thing is to adapt your new eating habits to Turkish cuisine. Over time, this new order will become normal.
